The Dutch House Location

Dutch House is found nestled on a mountain side above the Bandarawela Town which is a medium size market town situated approximately 4000ft above sea level. Offering guests spectacular views, the villa is only 2km away from the town centre. Travelling from Colombo is about a 5 hour drive while the travel time from Nuwara Eliya is just over an hour. It takes about nine hours if you take the scenic train journey from the Colombo Fort Railway station while some trains making a stop in Kandy. Vehicles can be arranged to pick you up with prior notice.

The Dutch House Accommodation

With fine hardwood floors, Dutch House offers 3 large comfortable guestrooms with high beamed ceilings and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and gardens. Two of the guest rooms are furnished with queen size four-poster beds and en suite bathrooms with large walk-in shower-rooms, while the third guest room has two single antique beds, including one in solid satinwood. All three bathrooms, two of which are en suite, are fitted with high quality sanitary ware including bidets. All beds are fitted with very comfortable mattresses and duck & down pillows hygienically protected with pillow protectors.
Facilities include fresh flowers, three towels per guest, his and hers fragrances, soap/shampoo dispenser, dimmer bed side lamps, attractive antique furniture, night light, duvet, hair dryer, lockable wardrobe, complimentary bottled water, smoke detector and a large dual voltage shaver socket.

The Dutch House Facilities

Meals at Dutch House are served on an elegant satinwood and ebony refectory table using good quality cutlery and linen napkins and also if you desire meals can be served along the long open veranda overlooking the gardens and beyond or maybe under the shade of the mango tree. The daily menu offered at the villa consists of a choice of two starters, two main courses and two/three desserts which also include Orange and cinnamon crème Brule, Mulberry and lemon parfait, Flambé caramel custards and Apple and mulberry crumble. The meals range from traditional Sri Lankan curries to home cooked western dishes. Breakfast includes a selection of exotic fruits, cereals, curd with treacle and a choice of cooked eggs, toast and marmalade or honey from there very own bees. Typical Sri Lankan breakfast such as string hoppers can be arranged with prior notice the day before. The villa doesn't sell alcohol but guests are welcome to bring their own. Dinner at the Villa includes a complimentary bottle of wine for two.

There are two members of staff available at the Dutch House anytime to attend to your needs. The Villa consists of a 15ft x 28ft enclosed swimming pool with two spa seats, all to yourself. Guests can make use of the private cinema with a good selection of DVDs while there is also a high definition projector an 8ft wide screen and a high quality sound system. The property is secluded in a spacious landscaped woodland garden which extends to about two acres where you can enjoy a very peaceful environment only to be disturbed by the chirping of birds making this ideal for bird watchers.

The Dutch House Excursions

With breathtaking scenery and tea estates to marvel, guests will find many places of interest in the vicinity of Dutch House. "Adisham" which is a 19th century stone mansion is a used today as a Benedictine Monastery while a small part of it is open to the public on specific days and times. You can purchase homemade jams and pickles produced by these catholic priests.
The "Dowa Temple" which dates back to the 1st century BC, attracts many devotees with a 4 metre high standing Buddha statue cut into the face of a large rock. The temple also includes a cave that holds early paintings and statues. You can enjoy quiet walks to get to know the area better while the colourful and lively market is a worth the visit. There is also a golf course which is situated at the military camp in Diyatalawa.
