| In rural surroundings near the historic town of Dambulla, this two bedroom comfortably furnished cottage offers an idyllic holiday for those who wish to relax and get away from it all. Alongside an ancient river, the Dambulu Oya, bathing in flowing fresh water and even fishing offers a relaxing change from suburban and city life. The cottage is located near the Kalundewa Junction about 6 Kms from the centre of Dambulla town. It is fully furnished with two bedrooms. It is fully self-contained with furniture, micro-wave food warmer, gas cooker, refrigerator and a range of crockery. Comfortable double and two single beds are fitted and the Cottage could adequately accommodate four people on a self catering basis. However, if required, a cook can be provided to prepare mainly Sri Lankan dishes. From Dambulla which itself is flush with ancient caves, monuments and temples the historic cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura are easily reached by road. Wild life mainly Elephants can be seen on the road to Habaraduwa and at times enjoying the waters of the nearby Minneriya Tank. Designated a World Heritage site, Dambulla is sited near a gigantic rock which towers more than 160m above the surrounding land. The Rock is more the 1.5km around its base and its summit is at 550km. The caves on the rock were the refuge of King Walagamba (Vattagamini Abhaya) who on his return to the throne at Anuradapura in the 1st century BC, had a magnificent rock temple built on the Dambulla Rock. The cottage is situated in a colourful attractive garden beside the Dambulu Oya which is home to a variety of birds and wild life. Rates are US$50.00 for hire of the Cottage per nght. |
