Ambalama Location |
Located about 7km South of the historic city of Galle, Ambalama is found along the coastal road that leads to Matara on the Dahawella Beach which is home to the Sri Lankan legacy of stilt fishing. This untouched stretch of beach is approximately 125km from Colombo while the drive from the airport takes about 3 1/2 hours or more.
The management arranges airport transfers if there are requirements while public transport options are also available from Colombo Fort. Travelers can travel through the southern Railway line up to Galle and catch the bus for the rest of the journey. Taxi/ tuk tuk rides are available. |
Ambalama Accommodation |
Ambalama provides guests with 4 spacious and comfortable suites with ocean views. The suites consist of French doors that open onto a lawn terrace. There are two suites each on either end of the Villa offering total privacy while it's ideal for families and groups of friends. There are three rooms with king sized double beds and one twin room.
All suites include air-conditioning, ceiling fans, dark wooden four poster beds each with comfortable mattresses, mosquito netting and fresh linen, well appointed en-suite bathrooms with twin vanities, hot water showers and soft towels. Two bathrooms feature outdoor showers in complete privacy. |
Ambalama Facilities |
A variety of dining choices are offered at Ambalama that will surely leave you awestruck. Guests can enjoy a BBQ with lobsters that are caught off the beach or fresh fish caught daily from the local market. You can also enjoy local and International cuisine prepared by the in-house chef and served by the attentive and courteous houseboys. You also have the opportunity to be involved in the preparation of the cooking process which includes joining the chef to buy fresh fish and produce. Mealtimes do not have a scheduled time.
Ambalama also consists of a large open living room with a view of the ocean and an infinity pool with sun beds set around it. The management also provides arrangements for a variety of massage therapies. Offering privacy for guests each room opens up to a lawn terrace while these well kept gardens aid you in having a relaxed holiday. Other facilities at Ambalama include a night watchman for security purposes, roaming signals for hand phones, broadband internet access and an iPod dock with base speakers to listen to your favorite music.

Ambalama Excursions |
There are a number of restaurants about a 10-15 minute drive away if you want to head out and enjoy the local splendor. Ambalama is also an ideal base to start off many excursions to the wonders that our little island has in store. The historic town of Galle is just about a 10 minute drive away with the Galle Fort that represents unique colonial architecture and includes narrow streets, shops and restaurants. Buddhist temples, 18th century Dutch churches and mosques are all of walking distance. About 30 minutes away is the coastal town of Mirissa where you can catch a boat to witness the amazing blue whales.
A 5 minute drive away is the Unawatuna beach where there are scuba diving schools and surf breaks. You can enjoy a lazy stroll along the beach at Ambalama watching the fishermen who are perched on stilts. For the nature enthusiast, the Sinharaja rain forest is only an hour away while the Yala and Udawalawe National Parks are further away. There is also the Galle Cricket stadium hosting test matches while the annual elephant polo tournament and the Galle Literary Festival attracts many visitors to this historic town.
