Castle Hill Guest House has barely changed in 30 years -- a lick of paint here, a small repair or update there. The result for the budget traveller has traditionally been a much-loved family home resonant of a simpler, less demanding era. "To change Castle Hill would be to ruin it, the old look has to remain," says Ayoni Senanayake. That atmosphere still suits some, but more demanding clients, seeking a modern, "boutique" atmosphere or attentive standards of service, should look elsewhere. Standards of cleanliness for instance, can be particularly inconsistent and the family dogs are also not always appreciated. |

Four ensuite bedrooms - two rooms, containing four beds, can comfortably sleep six. Two further rooms with three beds, can house a maximum of four.
Meal times are flexible, with any dinner orders agreed at breakfast and drinks available on request. A rambling lounge has a TV area, a small library, a piano, several sitting areas and two dining tables. Laundry can also be arranged on request. Sloping gardens are well stocked with flowers and bushes.
Kandy is Sri Lanka's hill country capital, where tropical heat is exchanged for cooler mountain slopes. Castle Hill Guest House enjoys a privileged position above Kandy Lake, with the Temple of the Tooth in full view and has long been a favoured haunt for the budget traveller with a sense of the past. A footpath near to Castle Hill offers a short cut to the lake -- only 10 minutes for the fleet of foot.
