A cosy three bedroom bungalow sitting on a misty hillside among a tea plantation, Pennington is a modern and compact bungalow with a panoramic view of the terraced tea gardens which surround it. The bungalow itself it set up on a hill with a beautifully manicured lawn in split levels, the gardens are complete with colourful flower beds and conifers which are pruned to give shade, and is a delightful spot to read or sit back and enjoy the panoramic view.
The bedrooms are roomy are airy and contain three beds apiece, each bedroom has its own attached toilet and shower which is equipped with hot and cold water. A comfortable and cosy sitting room leads on to the dining room and kitchen which is equipped with all modern amenities to enable you to prepare your own meals or you could call on the live-in cook and spend your time relaxing. All groceries can be purchased in the town hereby and there is even a handyman who is capable of stocking all necessary groceries and running errands.
There is beautiful scenery everywhere, a brisk walk is ideal to get the circulation going and take in the sights and sounds of this bracing Climate. The town which is just a few minutes away has many nooks and crannies to explore. The bazaar with its many vendors selling winter clothes, jackets, caps and wind breakers is an ideal place to haggle with the vendors and get yourself a bargain not found anywhere else.
The town with its beautiful Golf course the Race course where equestrian races are worked out usually in March and April, Gregory’s Lake, and Victoria Park has many sights to take in. And at the end of it all there is nothing more refreshing than a freshly brewed cup of Sri Lankan tea to rejuvenate your body and soul. |

- Nature Treks, over mountain trails, past waterfalls, are most popular, especially when conducted by a travel group. The itinerary includes World’s End, The Lover’s Leap Falls, The Single Tree Mountain walk, the Dunsinane Estate, and Horton Plains.
- Visit the Hakkgala Botanical Gardens, just south of Nuwara Eliya Town Visit a tea factory and learn the process by which the” cup that cheers” comes to your table.
- Visit the horse races. This relic of colonial times still flourish, with a meet almost every month except the monsoon period-June to July. The big event is the Governor’s Cup, run in April, which draws sporting crowds from Colombo.
- Perhaps you’d like to do some riding yourself- there are riding stables with horses and ponies.
- Enjoy a game of golf, or billiards, at the Hill Club
- Visit the Tea Factory Hotel, a luxury establishment converted from a real tea factory, standing among its own tea estates in Kandapola. The historic machinery and photographs of the tea making process as it was conducted in the early days is preserved in a museum, reminding us that this is the heartland of the best tea in the world. |
