Set against the backdrop of the Sinharaja Rainforest providing a pollution free tropical atmosphere, Rainforest Edge is located on top of a mountain with beautiful views of the surroundings. The property is located approximately 170km away from the Katunayake International Airport while the drive to the rainforest is only a mere 10 minutes.

Rainforest Edge offers full board accommodation on twin or double sharing basis as well as single accommodation with a supplement if required by guests. Your accommodation units are well designed to suit your needs with en suite facilities while a balance between ancient, traditional techniques & modern comfort is clearly visible in these eco friendly rooms. The energy source is a unique combination of solar energy and lamps with kerosene. Guests have a choice of the electric bulb or the lantern for reading and the solar heated hot water shower. Also to provide the harmony and balance with nature, rooms are not equipped with televisions or telephones.

Rainforest Edge Facilities

The main restaurant at the Rainforest Edge in Ratnapura offers guests breakfast, lunch and dinner which are traditional Sri Lankan meals prepared from the fresh produce grown in their very own organic farm without any sort of chemical manure. You can dine in a relaxed setting in the open air restaurant under a thatched roof with wonderful views and services by the hotel's culinary staff. The "Ambalama" which is a snack house is open from 7.00 am - 6.00 pm where you can taste "Kevili" which are Sri Lankan snacks, herbal drinks, tropical fruits and fresh juices as well as a fine cup of tea or coffee. The hotel management is also flexible enough for your special dietary requests. There are also Sri Lankan cookery lessons & demonstrations conducted by the villagers who are experts in traditional cooking.

For a more relaxing approach, Rainforest Edge has its own Ayurvedic Centre that includes Ayurvedic programmes such as Relaxation and wellness cures, rejuvenation and beauty cures, intensive cures, slimming cures, Panchakarma treatments and also special treatments for ailments and chronic diseases.

Rainforest Edge offers a unique experience where guests can enjoy during their stay with a local community sharing their habits & lifestyles. There is a maze of jungle trails used for Nature Walks and Mountain Biking where guests can enjoy exploring. Other activities available around the vicinity of the hotel include Jungle trekking and jogging, kayaking, bird watching, camping in a thatched tree house, a jeep safari to the Sinharaja Rainforest and ethno-botanical walking safaris with a naturalist, a jeep safari to the Uda Walawa National Park as well as guided tours upon request. The Sinharaja Rainforest is indeed a haven for birdwatchers and nature lover since there is an abundance of wildlife including 48 bird species of which 12 species are endemic. This forest covers an extent of about 11187 hectares in this region.
