Ranweli Holiday Village Location
An Eco friendly resort, Ranweli Holiday Village is located on a 22-acre peninsula where winding rivers and mangrove forests meet the sea. The property is located about 18km away from the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. Blending with the unique and natural environment, Ranweli's serene and idyllic location features indigenous fauna and flora, and borders the river from one side and the sandy beach on the other. The land was originally a coconut plantation which was surrounded by mangroves.
Ranweli Holiday Village Accommodation
Ranweli Holiday Village offers guests bungalow type accommodation which has been constructed using local building materials in an ethnic style resembling a typical local village. Providing comfortable accommodation, there are 71 sea view bungalows, 12 river views bungalows and 1 cottage suitable for a peaceful holiday. Interior decor includes brass lamps, artefacts by local craftsmen, hand made local fabric and terra cotta pots. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a sitting area, ceiling fans, telephone and private bathrooms that are sunlit from an open court to provide natural lighting and ventilation. The bathrooms are also equipped with solar powered water heating.

Guests are offered delicious buffet and a la carte International and Sri Lankan cuisine at the hotel's restaurant while vegetarian meals are available upon request. In addition to the main restaurant, there is a small fruit stall "Palathuru Masse" serving fresh fruit drinks and herbal drinks that are of medicinal value. There is also a pavilion bar by the swimming pool which has been constructed with eco friendly material providing snacks and beverages. Ranweli Holiday Village also has its own organic vegetable plots.
For a unique and romantic dining experience, the hotel introduces a "Ferry Dinner" which is served on a beautifully decorated ferry while gliding along the river adjacent to Ranweli Holiday Village. There is a personal butler, a chef and a ferryman on board to meet all your needs while there are three menus with choices of sea food, Sri Lankan/ Eastern or meat as the main course. All menus offer a 5 course dinner while a bottle of sparkling wine is served to complement the dinner. Tea/coffee is also served to end the meal.

Ranweli Holiday Village's special location in a coast wetland estuary contributes to a large diversity of over 130 species of birds. A three hour bird watching tour along the river and mangroves is offered as a special facility to our guests. A relaxed tour hour nature walk with a trained naturalist will guide you along the Ranweli Nature Trail where selected trees and shrubs are described.
Two exciting bicycle tours are available for guests where there is a chance to enjoy the natural environment and historical sites. Starting from half an hour onwards, the river cruise takes you through waterways by canoe or motorboat. Having a close-knit relationship with the local folks nearby, Ranweli provides an opportunity to the guests to take part in demonstrations of traditional Sri Lankan handicrafts. Nature tours also include visits to "Anaivilundawa" which is a wild life sanctuary and the Sinharaja Biosphere Reserve which is Sri Lanka's premier rain forest.
