Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has a rich and exotic variety of wildlife. The jungles of Sri Lanka abound in a variety of wildlife, which is surprising for an island of its size in the tropics. The best known national park is the Ruhunu National Park at Yala. There are also two other national parks at Inginiyagala and Uda Walawe.

An important part of ecological systems prevent in Sri Lanka would be the animal species. There are many kind of fauna observing varied behavior patterns suitable to its habitat. A major attraction for a nature lover would be the national parks of Sri Lanka.Despite its relatively small size , Sri Lanka possesses a high level of biodiversity.

A noteworthy feature of Sri Lanka’s biodiversity is the remarkable high proportion of endemic species between its flora and fauna . Sri Lanka has been identified by the environment activist group Conservation International( CI ) as one of 25 bio diversity hot spots in the world .Animals could be broadly categorized in to many groups such as :-

» Large Animals
Of the 86 species of mammals the pride of place goes to he majestic elephant , Leopard , species of deer –the Sambhur , the Hog Deer , the Mouse Deer can also been seen in the parks . Other mammals include the Sloth Bear , the protected Dugong , the Wild Boar , and the Procupine .

» Monkeys
Grey Langur , Purple Faced Leaf Monkey , Toque Monkey can be seen in parks.

» Reptiles
Swamp Crocodile , Estuarine Crocodile , Monitor Lizards , Agamid Lizards, Skinks , Cobra , Vipers , Star Tortoise ,Turtles

» Birds
Sri Lanka is the home to over 200 resident Bird Species .

» Amphibians
In the island there 53 species of Amphibiants ( Frogs , Toads , Caecilians ) of which over 25 species are endemic .

» Invertebrates
Ins Sri Lanka there are many interesting invertebrates including over 240 species of Butterflies of which 14 are endemic .

» Fish
The inland waters of Sri Lanka have more than 60 species of fresh water fish of which over 24 species are only found in Sri Lanka.
